The Lack of Color

Some cities have a strange way of making you feel both invisible and alive. The streets are full, the lights never seem to sleep, and yet it's easy to feel like you're just passing through someone else's story. I keep walking anyway, hoping that somewhere beyond the traffic, the noise, and the endless avenues, there's a place where I finally belong.

The older I get, the more I realize how quickly time steals what once felt permanent. We spent so much of our lives believing there would always be another chance, another conversation, another season. Instead, the years arrived quietly, carrying responsibilities, distance, and goodbyes. Somewhere between growing up and trying to hold everything together, we forgot how to simply be present.

There are days when the world feels washed in grey, as if all the colors have faded. Not because beauty disappeared, but because my heart stopped noticing it. I miss the version of myself who believed every road led somewhere meaningful and every ending was secretly the beginning of something better.

Still, hope survives in small ways. In city lights reflecting after the rain. In quiet drives with nowhere urgent to be. In the thought that healing isn't always loud it can happen one ordinary day at a time. Maybe the colors never truly left. Maybe they were only waiting for me to look up again.

If I've learned anything, it's that life moves whether we're ready or not. We can't reclaim the hours we spent afraid, overthinking, or waiting. But we can choose what to do with the time that's left. And perhaps that's enough to keep moving, to keep believing, and to let a little color return to a heart that once forgot how to see it.
