The Weight of Quiet

There are nights when sleep refuses to arrive, and the silence becomes louder than any sound. I remember being 24, feeling like life had somehow paused while everyone else seemed to be moving forward. The cold wasn't just outside it settled somewhere inside me too. Every day felt the same, and I convinced myself that loneliness was something I simply had to learn to live with.

Around that time, she dreamed of a different life. She wanted warmth, open skies, and a place where every sunrise promised a fresh beginning. I encouraged her to chase that life, even if it meant leaving everything familiar behind. Looking back, I wonder if I was helping her find freedom or quietly accepting that our paths were never meant to stay together.

When we were younger, the future seemed limitless. We believed we could become anything, go anywhere, and somehow outrun every fear. Growing older taught us that dreams don't always disappear they simply change shape. Some become memories, while others become questions we carry for years.

Sometimes I catch a glimpse of myself and remember the person I used to be. In those moments, I also remember the version of us that never had the chance to exist. It's strange how reflections can show more than a mirror ever should. They reveal the lives we almost lived, the conversations we never had, and the endings we never got to write.

Maybe solitude isn't the absence of people. Maybe it's learning to sit beside every "what if" without letting it define who you become. I still live alone, but I've begun to understand that being alone and being lost are not always the same thing.
